US and Iran move toward a one page deal to stop the war and start talks — This is the closest both sides have come to ending the war since it started

Axios is reporting that Washington and Tehran are on the verge of signing a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to officially end the hostilities that began in February. This isn’t a final treaty, but a “30-day framework” designed to hold a ceasefire while the technical teams hammer out the fine print in Islamabad or Geneva. Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are reportedly the architects of this “short-form” peace, which uses billions in frozen assets as the primary carrot.

A one-page “decapitation” of the war; triggers a 30-day clock.

The United States believes it is close to reaching an agreement with Iran on a one-page memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and establishing a framework for more detailed nuclear negotiations, Axios reported on Wednesday.
Washington is expecting Tehran’s response on several key issues within the next 48 hours, though no final agreement has been reached, according to the report.

US wanted 20 years, Iran 5; 15 is the current “landing zone.”

Billions (est. $20B+) to be released in tranches as Iran complies.

White House is currently waiting for Tehran’s final “Green Light.”

The U.S. is trading the naval blockade for a nuclear lock. By releasing the frozen funds, Trump is essentially buying a 15-year moratorium on enrichment. If Iran blinks, the $20 billion flows; if they reload, the blockade (and “Project Freedom”) returns instantly.

The “15-year ban” is the critical second-order effect. It allows Iran to save face (it’s shorter than 20) while giving the U.S. three full presidential cycles of nuclear stasis. The MoU reportedly includes a “snap check” clause for UN inspectors to prevent another “underground” facility surprise.
