Trump — I’m not running in 2028 if I lose this year.

Former President Donald Trump said in an interview aired Sunday that he doesn’t think he will run again in 2028 if he loses the presidency in November.

Why it matters: Trump has been the face of the Republican Party for the past three election cycles.

Driving the news: “No, I don’t. I think … that will be it. I don’t see that at all,” the GOP nominee said on “Full Measure” with Sharyl Attkisson when asked whether he saw himself running again in four years if he’s unsuccessful in 2024.

  • He added, “Hopefully, we’re gonna be successful.”

What he’s saying: “It would have been easier if I did it … contiguous,” he said of launching his 2024 bid after losing the 2020 race to President Biden.

Zoom out: Asked what positions Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could hold in a potential second Trump administration, the former president said RFK Jr. “would do great on health and on the environment.”
