Strait of Hormuz ship traffic is starting to move

Factcheck:
Current reporting shows that most commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively halted. Only a very small number of vessels, often Iranian‑linked, have moved through in the last few days.
Traffic has collapsed by more than 90 percent, dropping from dozens per day to just a handful of transits, mostly involving Iranian-flagged or sanctioned vessels.
Some reports noted three ships transited on March 9, including a VLCC tanker carrying Iranian crude to China.
Industry sources emphasize that this is not a full reopening. The massive reduction in traffic is caused by fear of attacks, insurance blackouts, and warnings from Iran, not because the strait has been safely restored.
In short, while a few ships are managing to transit, the overall situation is still one of severely suppressed traffic and not a clear reopening of the route.
