President Donald Trump has informed Pam Bondi that her time as his attorney general is nearing an end, multiple sources familiar with the situation told Semafor.
Trump has not yet made a formal announcement of Bondi’s replacement, but one is expected soon. As is typical, the sources noted that Trump can also change his mind at any time.
Bondi’s anticipated departure follows a tumultuous 14 months at the helm of the Justice Department, with the release of files on the Jeffrey Epstein investigation becoming a constant thorn in her side. In recent weeks, long-simmering frustration among Republicans over the chaotic release of the files resulted in a bipartisan congressional subpoena, and Trump lost confidence in her leadership.
“Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person and she is doing a good job,” Trump said in a statement to Semafor on Thursday morning.
