19 states push back against Washington’s overreach with Article V movement, convention of States gains momentum as debt crisis deepens

The movement for a Convention of States is gaining momentum. Nineteen states have officially signed onto the COS Project, calling for an Article V convention to rein in federal overreach and impose fiscal restraints. This effort is a direct response to Washington’s unchecked spending, bureaucratic expansion, and disregard for constitutional limits.

The urgency is undeniable. The national debt has soared past $36.22 trillion, with no signs of slowing down. Federal agencies continue to grow, absorbing taxpayer dollars while expanding their regulatory reach. Americans are watching as unelected bureaucrats dictate policy, bypassing elected representatives and consolidating power in Washington.

Article V is not a radical idea. It is the Founders’ emergency brake, designed for moments when the federal government becomes a runaway train. The Constitution grants states the authority to call a convention, allowing them to propose amendments that limit federal power, impose fiscal restraints, and establish term limits. This process does not require approval from Congress, ensuring that states can act independently to restore balance.

The question remains. Why has this not happened sooner? Every trillion added to the debt, every bloated agency, and every executive order bypassing legislative authority proves the necessity of action. The COS Project is a clear signal that Americans are fed up with Washington’s addiction to spending and power grabs.

The fight is far from over. Thirty-four states are needed to trigger the convention, and the remaining states must decide whether they will stand with the movement or continue enabling the swamp’s destruction. The stakes are high, and the future of constitutional governance hangs in the balance.
