Straight out of 1984: New York Democrats just passed Newspeak legislation replacing “mother” and “father”, words that have defined humanity for thousands of years, with “gestating parent” and “non-gestating parent.”
This isn’t inclusion. It’s erasing biological reality through… pic.twitter.com/ELS3WDSkK9— Kenneth Michael (@KennethMic97261) June 4, 2026
- “Mother” → “Gestating parent”
- “Father” → “Non-gestating parent”
- “Paternity” → “Parentage”
- “Putative father” → “Alleged parent”
The changes mainly affect family court, child custody, domestic relations, and education law. Supporters say it’s about making the law more inclusive for same-sex couples, surrogacy, and non-traditional families. Critics call it an erasure of biological reality and traditional family language.
The bill has passed both chambers and is now heading to Governor Kathy Hochul’s desk.
