“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” Vance said in a statement. “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
Usha Vance, 40, is the first woman since the 1870s to give birth while her husband is vice president.
She and her husband have three other young children, two boys and one girl, who are ages 4, 6 and 9.
While promoting his new book this year, JD Vance previously said it was unlikely that he would take parental leave once the baby arrived. The couple announced the pregnancy in January and said at the time that she was due in late July.
In March, the vice president, who could run for president in 2028, said at a White House event in Michigan that he had to persuade his wife to have another child.
