Toyota locks basic car features behind monthly paywalls

In order to use all the features and not just have it be a stock car that constantly tell you that have to subscribe for access. You have to PAY A SUBSCRIPTION!
Seriously if you don’t want to have to manually unlock your car doors with a key, you have to pay for remote key usage.

Why is everything a freaking subscription? What happened to just buying something and that’s it. Now some much stuff is pushing customers to buy the product and then a monthly micro charge subscription to keep using the product that was purchased!

There needs to be some serious pushback on these greedy companies.

 

Subscription Plans

  • What is included in the Go Anywhere Plan? 
The Go Anywhere Plan includes Drive Connect and Remote Connect. Drive Connect allows you to access real-time traffic elements, 24/7 live agents and new voice commands. More features on the Cloud as well as live agents are available to help you get to your next destination. Remote Connect is included at no additional cost with this subscription. With Remote Connect, you can control your vehicle from the palm of your hand. Start the engine, lock the doors, and even monitor guest drivers from the Toyota app. Feature availability will be dependent on your model.

  • Can I have multiple subscription plans at once? 
You can only be in one of the available subscription plans at a time (Go Anywhere, Premium, or Music Lover). However, you can be in a plan and have a Wi-Fi Connect subscription, simultaneously.
  • Can I let my spouse / family member use the Subscription plan for their car? 
When purchasing a subscription plan, it will remain with the vehicle for which it was purchased. For families with two or more vehicles, a separate plan purchase is required.
  • What happens to my subscription plan if I sell my vehicle? 
You will need to cancel your subscription prior to selling your vehicle. You can cancel directly in the Toyota App (within “My Garage” under the “Subscriptions” tab) or call 1-800-331-4331. Your subscription service will end but if you have any trials remaining, the remaining trials will follow the vehicle to the next owner.

  • Who is eligible for the Subscription Plans? 

Customers with certain 2022 model vehicles (and future generation vehicles) in the US will be using Subscription Plans for paid renewals of Connected Services.

  • Can I purchase a subscription plan if still in Remote Connect trial? 

As long as you do not have an active Drive Connect trial, you can continue to use the Remote Connect trial if you purchase a Go Anywhere, Music Lover, or Premium Plan. Once your Remote Connect trial ends, your Remote Connect service continues when purchasing a subscription plan. If a Drive Connect trial is active, only Music Lover Plan is available.

  • Can I purchase a subscription plan if still in a Drive Connect trial? 

You can purchase Music Lover Plan during your Drive Connect trial to receive Integrated Streaming and Remote Connect. If still in a Drive Connect trial, you are not eligible for Go Anywhere Plan or Premium Plan. Once your Drive Connect trial ends, your Drive Connect service can continue if you purchase Go Anywhere Plan or Premium Plan.

  • How soon can I select which subscription plans to renew if my Drive Connect trial is ending? 

At any time in the Toyota App, you can select the Go Anywhere or Premium subscription plan to renew your Drive Connect services. If still in Drive Connect trial, your subscription plan will be as “future-pay” (to go in effect when the trials end).

  • How can I continue with Integrated Streaming after my initial 30 days (or up to 3 GB trial) Wi-Fi Connect trial? 

If in a Drive Connect trial, you can select the Music Lover Plan to continue your Integrated Streaming. If a Drive Connect trial does not exist or has expired, you can select either the Premium Plan or Music Lover Plan.

  • Can I purchase a subscription plan when in a Wi-Fi Connect trial or subscription? 

Yes – you are eligible for all three plans during an active Wi-Fi Connect trial or subscription. Wi-Fi Connect is an independent product that can be combined with any subscription plan.

Modify Subscriptions (Cancel / Upgrade / Downgrades)
  • How can I cancel my subscription plan? 
First, go within “Subscriptions” page of the “My Garage” section of your Toyota app. After selecting your current plan, you can select “Manage Subscription” to cancel your plan. You can also call 1-800-331-4331 and follow the prompts for Connected Services. If you cancel your paid subscription, your trials will remain active.
  • What happens when I change my subscription plan? 
When you make a change to your connected services plan selection, Toyota will keep the original products active until the end of the current monthly subscription period and auto renew will be turned off. The services provided by the new connected services plan selection will then start at the next monthly subscription period.
