The SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, H.R. 22) is a bill requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (e.g., passport or birth certificate) for federal voter registration. It aims to prevent noncitizens from voting, mandates states to verify and remove ineligible voters, and includes penalties for violations. It passed the House in April 2025 and is pending in the Senate as of now.
