Potato Chips Recall Update as FDA Sets Risk Level

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set a risk level for the recall of potato chips due to inaccurate nutritional data and undeclared ingredients.

Detroit-based Uncle Ray’s LLC initiated a voluntary recall of Lowes Foods sour cream and onion flavored potato chips on February 25. The FDA classified it as a Class II recall, the second of three levels, on March 10.

Why It Matters

The FDA defines a Class II recall as “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

It is not as severe as a Class I recall, which the FDA says is “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
