The forced quarantine of New York citizens for forty two days is a massive expansion of federal power that should have every American looking over their shoulder. We are watching the government hold people who haven’t even tested positive for over a month in high security facilities just because they were on the wrong boat at the wrong time. This matters because it sets a dangerous precedent where the CDC can effectively disappear you into a biocontainment unit based on a potential exposure window rather than actual sickness. While Hochul tries to wash her hands of it by blaming federal law the reality is that three of her own constituents are being treated like biological weapons instead of citizens with rights. If the government can lock you up for six weeks without a trial or a positive test then the concept of personal liberty is officially dead in the face of a public health scare.
