Iran Nears Deal With China for CM-302 Anti-Ship Missiles Amid Rising US Tensions
Iran is nearing a deal with China to acquire CM-302 anti-ship cruise missiles, aiming to enhance its military capabilities. The missiles, which have a range of 290 kilometers and are designed to evade ship defenses, could pose a serious threat to US naval forces in the region, Reuters reported on February 24.
The potential sale comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran, with China asserting its role in the Middle East as it strengthens ties with Tehran.
It was previously reported that a surge in US military air activity across Europe and the Middle East was described as one of the most significant movements of American aircraft in decades, as tensions remain high over Iran.
The deal has been in the works for over two years and intensified after the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June 2025. Senior Iranian officials, including Deputy Defense Minister Massoud Oraei, visited China to finalize discussions. If completed, this would mark one of the most advanced weapons transfers to Iran, defying the United Nations’ arms embargo, according to Reuters.
