A new startup, founded and led by for OpenAI CTO Mira Murati just raised the largest seed round ever; $2B. Her company, Thinking Machines Lab, has an estimated valuation of $10B based on the fundraise.
Here’s the kicker, Thinking Machine Labs has no product. All it has is a vague stated goal “to make AI systems more widely understood, customizable, and generally capable” and a bunch of AI heavy hitters on its founding team.
It’s also a public benefit corporation. So, you know, a ton of money to “make the world a better place” with the corporate equivalent of “a concept of a plan”. Nothing to see here, folks.
To top it off, the company is structured in such a way Murati’s votes on the BOD are weighted to give her majority decision making capability. What could possibly go wrong?
