Four senior Biden White House aides have agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee, marking a major development in the investigation into President Biden’s cognitive decline and the use of autopen for official documents. The committee is set to hear from Neera Tanden, Anthony Bernal, Ashley Williams, and Annie Tomasini, all of whom held key positions in the Biden administration.
The testimonies will take place over the next several weeks. Tanden is scheduled for June 24, Bernal on June 26, Williams on July 11, and Tomasini on July 18. Their statements are expected to shed light on concerns surrounding Biden’s ability to govern during his final years in office.
The investigation has expanded beyond cognitive health. House Oversight Chairman James Comer has subpoenaed Biden’s former physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, to testify on June 27. The committee is also probing the use of autopen, a device that replicates a signature, which was allegedly used for sweeping executive actions, including presidential pardons and policy directives.
Trump has ordered the Justice Department to investigate the matter, calling it one of the most significant scandals in modern history. The inquiry aims to determine whether Biden’s aides concealed his declining mental state and whether key decisions were made without his direct involvement.
The controversy has intensified following reports from journalist Jake Tapper’s book “Original Sin”, which details Biden’s struggles with memory and decision-making. The book alleges that top Democrats avoided pressing Biden on his ability to serve a second term, despite growing concerns within his administration.
The hearings will be pivotal. With former aides now stepping forward, the investigation is moving into its most critical phase.
