China’s first Typhoon (Wutip) of 2025 hit Hainan with destructive winds

On the morning of June 13, 2025, the South China Sea was struck by sudden chaos as Typhoon Wutip, the first named tropical cyclone of the year, surged toward Hainan Island with powerful winds and torrential rains. Formed just days earlier over the warm waters east of the Philippines, Wutip intensified rapidly into a strong tropical storm before taking aim at southern China.
