Aggressive “murder wasps” could invade UK homes over the coming weeks, with Brits urged to keep windows firmly shut to prevent them from gaining entry. The humble cucumber could also help to ward them off, apparently producing a chemical reaction when combined with another common household item.
Expected to descend in their thousands, the “aggressive” creatures could stick around until the end of August, with pest control firms already witnessing a surge in emergency call-outs to tackle swarms.
According to UK pest control statistics, wasp-related jobs in June soared by more than six-fold compared to the corresponding period last year. These figures are projected to worsen in August following warm and wet conditions, creating ideal circumstances for their population boom, reports the Mirror.
Dr Nathaniel Green, an insect behaviour expert, commented: “We’re seeing nests far larger than normal, which means more wasps and more aggression. Keep your windows shut; otherwise, you’re giving them an open invitation into your home.
