WASHINGTON — Rebelling against their leaders, four House Republicans on Wednesday signed onto a “discharge petition,” giving Democrats the 218 signatures needed to force a vote on a three-year extension of the Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire for millions of Americans on Dec. 31.
If the enhanced premium tax credits expire, as is expected, insurance costs are projected to double, on average, for about 22 million Americans who get their coverage through Obamacare.
The discharge petition, led by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., has all 214 Democrats on board.
Marjorie Taylor Greene says ‘dam is breaking’ within GOP against Trump
In a CNN interview, the Georgia congresswoman said Trump’s reaction to the death of Rob Reiner was “classless” and she didn’t see the GOP winning in the midterms.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) on Tuesday said President Donald Trump has “real problems” within the Republican Party, adding in an interview with CNN that the president is out of touch with voters on key issues such as affordability.
Greene told Kaitlan Collins on “The Source” that the “dam is breaking” in terms of Trump’s hold on support within the party and she expects Republicans to struggle in next year’s midterm elections.
Citing the backlash to Trump’s comments on the death of director Rob Reiner, the 13 House Republicans who voted with Democrats to overturn Trump’s executive order on collective bargaining and Indiana Republicans’ rejection of the president’s redistricting push, Greene said she expected “pushback” within the party to grow as lawmakers enter the campaign phase for the upcoming elections.

Dec 16 (Reuters) – The unemployment rate for two U.S. groups that are often the most vulnerable to job loss in a softening economy – Blacks and teenagers – surged to the highest levels in more than four years in November, Labor Department data showed on Tuesday.
The jobless rate for Blacks hit 8.3% in November, the highest reading since August 2021, after standing at 7.5% in September, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The rate for teens shot up to 16.3%, the highest level since August 2020, from 13.2% in September.
The figures were included in the employment report for November that had been delayed by the 43-day U.S. government shutdown in October and November. Unemployment rate data for October was not collected because of the shutdown.
