Two people are dead and at least eight others are injured after a car plowed into a crowd in the center of Leipzig, Germany, this afternoon.

Witnesses reported a damaged Volkswagen SUV speeding through the Grimmaische Straße pedestrian zone at high speed. Disturbing accounts from local broadcasters indicate a person was seen on top of the vehicle as it tore through the shopping area. Police have detained a suspect, but a motive has not yet been established.

This happened in a high-traffic pedestrian zone; police are currently investigating intent.
