Treasury Lifts Russia Sanctions For Trump-Putin Alaska Summit

The U.S. Treasury just issued General License No. 125 temporarily lifting narrow sanctions on Russia to allow financial transactions necessary for Putin’s visit to Alaska for his summit with Trump.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control authorization permits “transactions prohibited by the Russian Harmful Foreign Activities Sanctions Regulations” that are “ordinarily incident and necessary to the attendance at or support of meetings in the State of Alaska” between the U.S. and Russian governments.

The temporary suspension lasts through 12:01 a.m. Eastern on August 20, 2025.

The license explicitly does NOT allow release of any blocked property or other transactions beyond those needed for the summit.
