Tariffs hit midnight: Canada 35%, Switzerland 39%, Vietnam 20%. Non-deal nations get the axe.

Trump changed tariff rules just before the deadline. He slapped 40% duties on all transshipped goods. If a country is not on the latest list, its goods will get an extra 10% tax. The new rates start for goods entering the US at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, seven days after the order, with some exceptions.

The main country tariff rates stand as before:

  • Switzerland 39%

  • Canada 35%

  • South Africa 30%

  • Taiwan 20%

  • Vietnam 20%

  • Thailand 19%

  • Cambodia 19%

  • Malaysia 19%

  • Indonesia 19%

  • Turkey 15%

  • Venezuela 15%

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the U.S. is serious about enforcement. “A 35% tariff on Canada remains,” he said.

The tariffs aim to push countries to negotiate better trade deals. The White House will not tolerate dodging duties through third countries. Importers now face a hard choice: pay more or move production.
