A fast-moving wildfire destroyed a historic lodge and dozens of other structures on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs called on the federal government to investigate the National Park Service’s response to the wildfire.
The story they tell is that they are using sea sand to make the concrete, which is salty. The salt corrodes the rebar. the rebar expands as it corrodes. This expansion then busts up the concrete. Bridges, buildings, etc are just collapsing. h/t JustmeTX
