Shampoo recalled over possible contamination with infection-causing bacteria

More than 1,000 bottles of shampoo are being recalled in the United States after the manufacturer discovered they may be contaminated with a bacteria that can cause serious infections.

The bottles of Tec Italy Shampoo Totale were distributed in the US through New York and California, but may have been sent on to other states, according to parent company Henkel, which is headquartered in Germany and also makes products like Dial soap and Snuggle fabric softener. Henkel said the shampoo may contain Klebsiella oxytoca, a healthy bacteria normally found in the gut but exposure outside of the intestines can cause eye, nose, and skin infections and more commonly spreads in medical settings.
