San Diego Padres sell for a record $3.9 Billion after owner died. 5x return in 14 years.

Insane prices. They were looking north of 2 billion and got nearly double that.

The San Diego Padres are nearing a deal to be sold to private-equity billionaire José E. Feliciano and his wife Kwanza Jones, according to people familiar with the matter.

The deal values the Padres at around $3.9 billion—the highest valuation ever achieved by a Major League Baseball team, the people said. The previous record was Steve Cohen’s $2.4 billion purchase of the New York Mets in 2020.
