What happened: Just before the start of a performance at the Crocus City Hall concert hall outside Moscow, as many as five armed men in camouflage entered the building and opened fire on the crowd. An expanding fire has led to the collapse of the building’s roof.

The death toll: At least 40 people are confirmed dead, and more than 100 people have been injured.
