Record amount of torrential rain causes severe flash floods in southern Thailand… and Vietnam

A record amount of torrential rain caused severe flash floods in southern Thailand over the weekend. Officials said nearly 2 million people are affected.

Heavy rain that began last weekend triggered severe flooding and landslides from Quang Tri to Lam Dong provinces, a stretch of 800 km along the country’s central region, including the highlands. The flood inundated more than 200,000 homes and damaged 1,150 others. In Dak Lak, the worst hit province, 63 people were killed, mostly due to drowning.
