Pape is a leading expert on military simulation, particularly regarding Iran and escalation strategies. He has advised every White House since 9/11 on middle east conflicts and war simulations. He modeled the bombing of Iran for over 20 years working with the Air Force and Navy. That aspect tactically seems to be going exceedingly well, strategically perhaps not so well.
Pape was also very involved with the economic, social and political aspects of warfare and how those aspects get in the way of desired strategic objectives. He always insisted air power alone would not bring strategic success. He also warned that an Iran war would open up a pandora’s box of troubles. Vietnam war on steroids he was quoted as saying

I really hope Pape is wrong, but war has been going exactly how he said it would 3 weeks ago. This Iran conflict is a very complicated situation. Many people just listen to the echo chambers that tell you what you want to hear. Takes courage to investigate further.
