NORTH COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (WKRC) – Nearly three-quarters of the North College Hill Fire Department called it quits on Friday, announcing that they will be resigning as of March 17.
Members of the North College Hill Fire Department said they have reached a “breaking point.” The people planning to leave the department include top-level management such as all of the chief officers, the majority of lieutenants, and senior firefighters.

The department’s Facebook post said “many issues” led to the resignations, noting the “mental, emotional, physical and financial tolls have culminated to this breaking point.” In a release, the city said it was “surprised” to receive the mass resignation letter.

A staggering 75% of the North College Hill’s Fire Department staff, including many senior officers, informed the city council this week of their intended resignation.
In a signed letter addressed to North College Hill Mayor Tracie Nichols and the City Council, 15 members of the city’s department announced their intent to resign on March 17.
The staff members include the fire chief, two deputy chiefs, three lieutenants and nine firefighters, some of whom are also paramedics. According to a Facebook post on the North College Hill Fire Department’s page, these are “all chief officers, the majority of lieutenants and the majority of the most senior and experienced firefighters and paramedics on the department.”
The firefighters wrote in the post, “We have repeatedly exhausted all options available. The mental, emotional, physical and financial tolls have culminated to this breaking point.”

Chief quit, so the council retaliated by putting him on “Administrative Leave.
