Petro calls to erase the Colombia Venezuela border as U.S. military presence expands

“Colombian President Gustavo Petro floated the idea of a political union with Venezuela… speaking at a rally in Bogotá, Petro said the two nations should ‘erase the border’ and move toward integration… his comments come as the Pentagon expands its military buildup in the Caribbean, raising concerns about escalating tensions in the region…”

“Erase the border” is a strange thing to say out loud. That’s not a slogan, that’s a step. The crowd probably didn’t even realize what they heard.

“The Gerald Ford aircraft carrier strike group has moved into the Latin America region, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Tuesday… the deployment was ordered by President Donald Trump last month and adds to the eight warships, a nuclear submarine and F-35 aircraft already in the region… officials did not specify the location of the carrier, only that it had moved into the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility…”

Not saying where the carrier is located says more than if they did. There’s a reason someone doesn’t want the public picturing the map.

“Christine Clement saw the grainy footage of an alleged drug boat being blown to pieces on the seven o’clock news… hours later, her phone was flooded with messages of condolences, saying her grandson Chad Joseph had been on board… families of Joseph and another Trinidadian claim they were among six men killed in the US strike in international waters off Venezuela… Lynette Burnley, Joseph’s aunt, said, ‘Hold them, charge them, do whatever you have to do, but you can’t just accuse without no evidence and take somebody’s life… he [Trump is] blowing them up like dogs’…”

Seeing the boat blown apart on the TV news and then getting those messages about who was on it is the detail that sticks. That’s not an official statement or briefing. That’s just real life showing up in the living room without warning.
