New tech I'd sh*t. What's your story of an older technology that got rebranded to rob us all blind?

Basically old technology from computers and TV’s that were once free or just stored in a server someonewhere to sell back to you.
They are basically selling modern versions of the same shit remotely.
This is the biggest con job in history.
In general for everyday use I think tech has downgraded actually.
It’s so difficult to fix it yourself, and new tech is planned to break or slowdown and fry itself which is all planned through updates. Even something as small as a batter change is difficult. Burning of glue with a hot gun ect. Back in the day you just unclipped it and replaced it without the middle man doing it for you. I guess I just woke up to the throwaway society we all live in.
