Members of Parliament have voted against a new national inquiry into the scandal around grooming gangs. It was voted down by 364 votes to 111.

It comes after the prime minister and his opposite number clashed during a heated Prime Minister’s questions, when Sir Keir Starmer warned a further inquiry could delay action on tackling child sexual abuse.

Sir Keir accused the Conservatives of “jumping on the bandwagon” after a week of extraordinary interventions by Elon Musk.
