A homeowner (in the Buxton/Rodanthe area) spent up to $300,000 to physically move their large oceanfront house approximately 150 feet inland to protect it from severe beach erosion and the encroaching Atlantic Ocean.
The house, which weighed around 264,500 pounds, was lifted and relocated on a new foundation further back on the property. This is part of a growing trend in the Outer Banks where multiple homeowners are forced to move their houses as the shoreline rapidly erodes.
