The government shouldn’t have forgiven PPP loans for large companies or closed fraud investigations. Rent and commodity prices were already outpacing inflation before other measures were introduced to ease consumer strain. While the PPI to CPI gap has stabilized somewhat since 2022, it spiked after the COVID dip—similar to the pre-2008 failures.
