The president will only be in Switzerland for about two days but has several items on his to-do list amid rising tensions with many of the U.S.’s European allies, particularly over his rhetoric on acquiring Greenland.
Making a deal to acquire the semiautonomous Danish territory is at the top of Trump’s foreign policy priorities heading into Davos, arguing that getting Greenland is necessary to protect U.S. national security.
While he’s encountered broad resistance over his push to acquire Greenland, the president will be on the hunt over the next two days for anything he can characterize as progress toward accomplishing his goal.
Trump’s other key priority is the establishment of his “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza as part of the next phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. A signing ceremony to formalize the board is scheduled for Thursday.
But the status of the board, set to be led by Trump, seems up in the air as a few key figures have taken issue with certain aspects of the proposal.
