Google updates Incognito Mode disclaimer following $5bn settlement over user tracking
In the wake of Google’s recent $5 billion settlement over user tracking in Chrome’s Incognito Mode, the tech giant has updated the mode’s disclaimer to more accurately detail its data collection practices. The revised disclaimer is intended to provide users with a clearer understanding of what Incognito Mode can and cannot do in terms of privacy.
Previously, the disclaimer read: “Now you can browse privately, and other people who use this device won’t see your activity. However, downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved.” The updated version now states: “Others who use this device won’t see your activity, so you can browse more privately. This won’t change how data is collected by websites you visit and the services they use, including Google. Downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved.”
