First day of warm weather and police had to impose an emergency 8PM curfew in Long Branch, NJ

Police imposed an emergency 8 p.m. curfew in the Pier Village beachfront area of Long Branch, NJ after hundreds of teenagers gathered due to the first warm day of the season. The crowd turned unruly with fights, blocked streets, and people jumping on cars. Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and Long Branch police from multiple agencies responded with over 100 officers, some in riot gear, and cleared the area by around 9:15 p.m. Six arrests were made and one car was reported stolen. No serious injuries occurred. The unseasonably warm temperatures (approaching record highs in parts of NJ) drew large crowds to the shore. Officials described it as a social media-organized pop-up event that got out of hand.
