Final report on Trump investigation blocked by judge

federal judge on Tuesday temporarily blocked special counsel Jack Smith from releasing a final report summarizing findings from his investigations into President-elect Trump.

Why it matters: It’s a win for Trump, who fought the release of the report on his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election and handling of classified documents.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon — who Trump appointed — halted the release of the report until three days after the Eleventh Circuit court responds to a similar emergency motion.
Zoom in: Cannon’s order prevents Smith, Attorney General Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice any employees or officers from releasing the final report or any drafts.

Because the case is now under the jurisdiction of an appeals court, it’s unclear whether Cannon can order Garland how to handle the report, the New York Times reported.
Cannon’s order doesn’t block Trump or his co-defendants from releasing details of the report themselves, Politico reported.
