eBay wants me to commit a crime in order to get a refund for a counterfeit item received

The only way to get a refund according to their help pages (and this support chatbot) is to return the counterfeit item to the seller. But it is a crime in my country to ship any counterfeit goods. Would you be mildly infuriated if you were out $100 and several hours trying to find a way to get a refund?
