DOJ prosecutor in California opens ‘multiple election fraud’ probes

A federal prosecutor in California has opened probes into alleged voter fraud in the state after President Trump accused Democrats of “cheating” in the primary elections this week.

Bill Essayli, the first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, announced Friday that his office had “multiple election fraud investigations underway” but did not offer any specifics.

“We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and prosecute any violations of federal election law to the fullest extent,” Essayli, a Trump appointee, wrote on the social platform X.

Essayli alleged California’s election system was rife with “serious structural vulnerabilities,” criticizing the state’s policy of allowing mail-in voting and not requiring photo ID at the polls — two practices Trump often claims, without evidence, contribute to widespread voter fraud.
