A fast moving wildfire dubbed the Canyon Fire has exploded to over 1,050 acres in under three hours, forcing evacuation orders for 4,200 residents and warnings for 12,500 more.
The blaze, zero percent contained, is burning east through steep, dry terrain and threatening power lines and communities including Hasley Canyon and Hathaway Ranch.
Officials cite extreme heat, low humidity, and strong onshore winds for the rapid spread.
More than 250 firefighters, helicopters, and air tankers are battling the flames as residents flee under immediate life threatening conditions.
