California gasoline tax goes up 4 cents per gallon

You’re now paying 4 cents more per gallon at the gas station after an increase in California’s gasoline excise tax went into effect at the start of the new fiscal year July 1.

The annual bump is due to the passage in 2017 of Senate Bill 1 — commonly called the gas tax — that passed the Legislature and was signed into law by then-Gov. Jerry Brown.

The excise tax is adjusted annually for inflation and effective Saturday, it rose from 53.9 cents per gallon to 57.9 cents.

However, prices have hardly moved. According to AAA, the average price per gallon in San Diego on Monday stood at $4.889, up just four-tenths of a cent compared to a week ago.

If they fixed roads with it i wouldn’t care. Money just ends up getting wasted on other projects.
