Bessent says Treasury Department is investigating the alleged transfer of Minnesota tax dollars to the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab

The U.S. Treasury Secretary announced on Monday night that the department is looking into claims that Minnesota tax dollars may have been diverted to the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a post on X that the investigation follows concerns about how the Biden administration and Governor Tim Walz handled state funds.

Secretary Bessent stated the department will release more information as the investigation progresses.

The announcement comes about a week after President Donald Trump pledged to terminate temporary legal protections for Somalis living in Minnesota.
