Back to Back HUGE Snowstorms Are Incoming…

The weather pattern is undergoing a significant transition as we head into late December and early January. A massive shift in the Arctic Oscillation (AO) is facilitating a series of major cold blasts, setting the stage for a high-impact “Christmas Sandwich” of snowstorms. We are closely monitoring a Negative NAO pattern, which is opening the floodgates for Arctic air to clash with moisture-rich systems from the Atmospheric River.

WE expect snowstorms across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, specifically targeting the I-95 corridor. Cities like New York City, NY, Philadelphia, PA, and Boston, MA are currently in the path of these systems. Furthermore, the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Midwest (including Chicago, IL, and Detroit, MI) should prepare for “plowable” snowfall events as the Jet Stream slows down.

In this forecast, we use a Probabilistic Forecasting approach:

Scenario A (High Confidence): Arctic air locks in place, leading to a major Nor’easter.

Scenario B (Medium Confidence): A series of smaller clippers with higher snow-to-liquid ratios.

Stay tuned for updates on Vorticity levels and potential Bombogenesis as these systems intensify off the coast.
