Melbourne father-of-two Chris Nemeth received Australia’s largest COVID vaccine injury payout to date: $6.5 million under the federal COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme. He developed severe Guillain-Barré Syndrome after an AstraZeneca jab in 2021, which left him with lifelong disabilities.After receiving the payout, he was hit with a $2.4 million tax bill (roughly one-third of the settlement), as parts of the compensation for future care and lost earnings are treated as taxable income.
