Amazon operates roughly 10 distribution sites in New York City as proposed law threatens contractor model and thousands of delivery jobs

NYC is pushing a bill called the Delivery Protection Act that would basically kill Amazons cheap free delivery model. It forces Amazon to hire all their last mile delivery drivers and warehouse workers directly instead of using contractors. That means way higher costs for Amazon so free or fast delivery could disappear or get a lot more expensive.

Amazon already warned they would have to shut down operations in the city and move stuff to New Jersey or nearby areas. They run around 10 distribution spots in NYC with thousands of subcontractor jobs on the line. Some reports mention warehouses closing or shifting as this heats up but its not seven permanent shutdowns confirmed yet. Its more like theyre getting ready to pull back hard if the law passes.
