Air Force refueler declares mayday while flying Iranian waters

US KC-135 tanker screams emergency over Persian Gulf right off Iran.

An American KC-135 refueling tanker affiliated with the US Air Force declared an emergency while flying over the Persian Gulf near Iran today. It squawked the 7700 distress code, descended, and dropped off radar for a bit amid heavy GPS jamming in the area. Helicopters scrambled from Qatar, but the good news is it landed safely with no injuries. No sign it was shot down, looks like a technical issue or the crazy electronic warfare going on out there.
