AI is powerful at linking data but terrible at planning ahead, humans are not obsolete yet

Computers beat humans at repeatable tasks since the 50s.

AI is currently far bellow average human intelligence in tasks that involve planning ahead and imagination of cascading effects. In fact they are terrible at it.

AI is currently extremely capable at synthesizing information by linking related contexts together. It’s a very smart index.

The current public impression that AIs are capable of performing tasks is nothing but an illusion. Current AI might be able to problematically perform a task, if that task, or something so similar that it can link to it, is part of it’s training set.

If it’s not, it doesn’t work like humans, it can’t accomplish the task.

This is the problem Self Driving cars have. They work great as long as they don’t encounter edge case situations, not present in their data set, in which case the whole network fails to act, as it cannot create a link between current situation and an action it needs to take.

So no, AI’s in current form, are simply not capable of replacing humans. But they are extremely capable in aiding humans, like all prior computer technologies.
