A gruesome mystery unfolded last week after approximately 70 piles of cremated human remains were discovered scattered around an area of remote desert near Las Vegas.
The alarm was raised when an anonymous individual reported the find to TV station 8 News Now.
The remains included bone fragments and ash which were either deposited in piles or strewn around the area. Some of the residue was even found in bushes and on cacti.
Fragments of zip ties and broken pieces of urns were also found.
It is thought that the remains had been there for some time as there was evidence of weathering.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has since opened an investigation in an attempt to determine how the remains had ended up at this remote, unremarkable location in such large quantities.
The Bureau of Land Management is investigating the discovery of dozens of piles of human cremains outside of Las Vegas.
