Zelensky proposes ceding land to Russia for NATO protection

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a controversial and drastic proposal: ceding territory currently under Russian control in exchange for NATO’s security assurances over the remaining Ukrainian land. This marks a dramatic shift from his prior stance, where the goal was to reclaim all of Ukraine’s territories.

Zelensky’s plan centers on what he calls a “NATO umbrella.” This could either mean full NATO membership or security guarantees from individual NATO member states.
