The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has ordered the recall of all its overseas staff. This directive, announced by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, signifies the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to downsize federal agencies and cut costs.
USAID’s deputy administrator, Pete Marocco, has met with State Department leadership, issuing a strict order: all USAID employees must be out of their respective countries by Friday. Should the State Department fail to execute this directive, the U.S. military will step in to evacuate the staff. This decision impacts USAID’s humanitarian efforts across more than 100 countries, including critical disaster relief, health and medical aid, and emergency food programs. This recall affects approximately two-thirds of USAID’s 10,000 overseas employees.
