Ukrainian drone strikes hit Russian-held energy sites, US Embassy warns Americans in Kiev

Ukraine has launched a new wave of drone strikes, targeting Russian-controlled energy infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. The attacks have knocked out power for tens of thousands, according to Russia-installed officials, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.

The strikes come at a critical moment. With peace talks scheduled in Istanbul, Ukraine’s military has intensified its operations, aiming to disrupt Russian logistics and weaken its hold on occupied territories. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed that dozens of drones were deployed, hitting key energy sites and military positions.

The impact is immediate. Russian-backed authorities report that power grids in multiple cities have been severely damaged, leaving residents without electricity. The Kerch Bridge in Crimea, a vital supply route for Russian forces, has also been targeted in recent operations, further complicating Moscow’s ability to reinforce its troops.

The US Embassy in Kiev has issued a warning. Officials are advising American citizens to prepare for potential Russian retaliation, urging them to take cover and remain alert. The advisory follows intelligence reports suggesting that Moscow may respond with large-scale missile strikes.

Russia’s military is on high alert. The Kremlin has acknowledged the attacks, stating that air defenses intercepted some drones but failed to prevent widespread damage. Russian officials claim that Ukraine’s strikes were coordinated with Western intelligence, a charge that Kyiv has not addressed directly.
